In 1994, just after the horrendous January bushfires, the LPA donated substantial funds to the National Trust to enable the purchase of some video recording equipment. In return the National Trust was to produce a video on bushfire prevention for distribution by the LPA. For a number of reasons, the bushfire video did not proceed, and the video evolved to become a video on the history of Lugarno. During 1999, the newly elected LPA Committee contacted the National Trust to determine the status of the video as some 5 years had passed since its initial commissioning. The outcome of those discussions has been the development of a Lugarno Progress Association web site as the National Trust was no longer in a position to produce the video agreed to in 1995. We are therefore
pleased to announce the launch of the LPA Web Site. Its address is www.nsw.nationaltrust.org.au/lugarno.html
The site provides information about the history of Lugarno, the Lugarno Tree Study, matters affecting Lugarno today including links to Hurstville Council's web site so Councillors can be e-mailed and Council meeting notes can be accessed. It also has a section on the LPA including who's on the Committee, the Constitution of the LPA and the monthly newsletter, etc. We are most interested in feedback on the site and will endeavour to develop it further during 2000. We hope it provides interesting reading especially to new residents of Lugarno. We will be looking for a Committee member to take the site "under their wing" in 2000, so if you have Web experience, come along to our AGM in February 2000 and "get elected". For our
last meeting 1999, we are intending to have a light Christmas supper after
the meeting so if you have been thinking about coming along please do
so on Monday 13 December at 8.00 pm and join us for some festive cheer.

Councillor Chris Lee for attending
our November meeting and telling us a bit about himself and how he is faring
as a new Peakhurst Ward Councillor. Councillor Lee offered to come back again
in 6 months' time once he has settled in a bit more and we'll certainly take
him up on that offer. |

Preservation Officer |
| Due to unavoidable
circumstances, the presentation by Council's Tree Preservation Officer at
our November meeting did not proceed. However, we have been in contact with
the Council Officers concerned and they will definitely be attending our
December meeting and we will be able to discuss the issue and concern of
tree lopping and removal with the officers. |

| At a recent meeting, the issue of the poor drainage around the Evatt Park cricket nets was brought up. The LPA wrote to Council who responded on 27th October 1999 indicating the works have been listed for attention/rectification in the near future. |
